What Does It Mean To Be A Christian?

The best way to get to know God is in community. It is primarily through relationships that the good news is passed on from one person to another. But here are some basic concepts, hopefully in plain language, that can help you get to know God and yourself from a christian perspective.

Everyone wants to be happy!

But real happiness comes from understanding my purpose in life

Why Am I Here?

·        God made me to LOVE me.

·        We were created to ENJOY a personal relationship with God and to MANAGE all of the rest of God’s creation!  This makes us special!

·        When we know and love God, and live in harmony with His purpose for our lives, it produces tremendous benefits in our lives:

o       Clear Conscience    Rom. 8:1

o       Life & Peace     Rom. 8:6

o       Help with Weakness    Rom. 8:26

o       Purpose   Rom. 8:28

o       Confidence   Rom. 8:31

o       Security   Rom. 8:39

o       Power & Strength    Phil. 4:13

o       Fulfillment    Phil. 4:19

o       Freedom    John 8:32,36

What’s The Problem?

We all have a natural desire to BE BOSS and to ignore God’s principles for living. Sin is the attitude of:

·        “Looking out for #1.  Doing your own thing.”

·        “If it feels good, do it.”

·        “It’s my life and I’ll do what I want!”

Sin can damage and destroy our relationship with God, others, and ourselves.

What’s The Solution?

Jesus Christ said…

“I AM THE WAY, the Truth, and the Life.  No one comes to the Father, except THROUGH ME!”  John 14:6

 The Bible says…

“…God is on one side and all the people are on the other side, and Christ Jesus, Himself a man, is between them to bring them together…” 1 Timothy 2:5

What Does God Want Us To Do?

 1. ADMIT that God has not had first place in your life and ask Him to forgive your sins.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from every wrong.”  1 John 1:9

2. BELIEVE that Jesus died to pay for your sins and that he rose again on Easter, and is alive today.

“If you confess that Jesus is your Lord, and you believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”  Romans 10:9

3. ACCEPT God’s free gift of salvation.  Don’t try to earn it.

“For it is by grace you are saved, through faith — and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast.”  Ephesians 2:8,9

4. INVITE Jesus Christ to come into your life and be the leader (“Lord”) of your life. This always involves a commitment to God's family- the church.

“To all who receive Him, He gives the right to become children of God.  All we need to do is to trust Him to save us.  All those who believe this are reborn! — not a physical rebirth...but from the will of God!”  John 1:12-13 (LB)

There Are 3 Vital Aspects Of Saving Faith

·        Knowledge: I know Christ lived and died and rose again

·        Conviction: I believe I’ve been running my own life and need the forgiveness Christ offers

·        Commitment: I will trust Christ as my savior and leader

QUESTION: Are you ready to trust the one who made you and bought you? He loves you and wants you to become a member of his family. Perhaps you are ready to receive his forgiveness and leadership in your life right now. Our church is ready to welcome you into the faith.

Pray: Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. I have been running my own life and ignoring your call. I need your forgiveness and leadership. Thank you for dying for my sins on the cross. I turn from my sins and trust Jesus to save me and be my leader for the rest of my life, with your help. And with your help I will become part of the Christian family through baptism and church membership. I want be an active member of the body of Christ. I cannot change myself. I cannot follow you in secret. Make me the person I was meant me to become. Help me commit myself to you and your people from now on. Amen

If anyone is in Christ they are a new creation. The old has gone, the new has come. 2 Cor. 5:17
